Pop Culture in the UK, Part 1

I’ll be using this Powerpoint Presentation to give you a rough (very rough!) overview of UK Pop Culture.

We’ll hopefully be viewing the following clips, if the computer handles them well:

Here is the pdf containing the discussionn questions for Episode 1 of The Office.

Finally, an Update!

Finally, I’m getting around to updating this page.

There was no handout for the lecture on English in India and the Indian Film Industry, before Chuseok, but this week, there is a handout — but I can’t find it online.

For the record, it was Matt Groening’s cartoon The Storefront of Doom, taken from Greil Marcus’s Lipstick Traces, and a photocopy was distributed in class.

Our exam will be on Thursday, 26 October, and should take about an hour to complete.

Essays Due Week 9

To all Intermediate English Composition classes: your essays are due at the beginning of Week 9.

Your essays are due, specifically, at the beginning of class on:

MW: on October 30th.

TTH: on October 31st.

In lieu of classtime during the exam period, will be in my office, available for meetings during the classtime during week 8, for any students who want personal feedback or help on their essays.

Here is a copy of the essay format handout distributed in class. Bear in mind that in PDF format, margins and other formatting are slightly distorted. Follow the guidelines carefully, even when they differ slightly from the layout on the page.
